Parent FAQ

Do I need to know Chinese to use this set with my child? No, you don't. This set includes access to online audio recorded by a native Mandarin speaker, English translations printed at the back of each reader, and bilingual word charts printed on the inside front cover. No prior Chinese knowledge is needed.

What age is this best for?
Set 1 is designed for children ages 3–8 who are beginning to learn Chinese. That said, younger and older kids who are just getting started love it too!

Should I choose the Traditional or Simplified Chinese set?

  • Traditional Chinese is more commonly used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and many overseas communities. Note that this Traditional Chinese set has Simplified Chinese variant characters printed on each page.
  • Simplified Chinese is more prevalent in Mainland China, Singapore, or many immersion school programs.

What's the difference between Traditional and Simplified Chinese characters?

Traditional characters have more strokes and often include visual and phonetic clues that help some children recognize and remember them more easily. Simplified characters use fewer strokes and are quicker to write, which some beginners find easier at first. The right choice depends on your goals and the type of Chinese your child is learning.

How is this set used at home?
Set 1 is perfect for after-school learning, weekend fun, or as a gentle introduction to Chinese. Grandparents, relatives, and friends often give our sets as gifts to introduce children to their heritage language. Many homeschooling families use it too. Our sets are also a wonderful way to introduce languages at an early age to prepare kids to learn languages at school.

Is everything digital or do I get physical books?
You'll receive 10 physical readers in a box. Inside, you'll find a QR code and link to access the audio narration, printable activity sheets (PDF) and downloadable Achievement Certificate.

Where do I find the audio?

Inside the box, scan the QR code or follow the included website link. You can stream the audio or download it to listen offline on any smart phone, tablet, or computer.
